Cabo de Palos Lighthouse
First lit on 31 January 1865 over a 16th-century watchtower, the lighthouse is the icon of the Region de Murcia's coastline and the village's natural lookout: from its esplanade you take in La Manga, the Mar Menor lagoon, the Calblanque hills and, offshore, the Islas Hormigas.
Practical facts
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Esplanade | Free access, year round |
| Climbing the tower | Guided visit of ~30 min, 6 €, small groups — book ahead |
| From the harbour | ~1.2 km on foot along the promenade (15 min) |
| Best moment | Sunset; in summer, also crowd-free sunrise |
Local warning
In July and August the esplanade and its approaches jam with cars at sunset: walk up from the village instead. During a strong levante, the lighthouse point offers the best wave show in the area — and the worst place to approach the rocks.
